What the ocean does to a garage door on the peninsula
Far Rockaway sits at the eastern end of the Rockaway peninsula, with the Atlantic on one side and Jamaica Bay on the other. That is a great place to live and a hard place to be a steel spring. Damp, salty air settles on everything in an unheated garage, and the parts that move the most — springs, cables, rollers and hinges — are the ones that wear out first.
In our experience the first sign is usually a sound: a squeal from dry rollers, a grinding hinge, or one loud bang from the ceiling when a spring finally breaks. The second sign is the door itself: it shakes on the way up, stops short, or sits crooked with a gap on one side. None of these fix themselves, and most get more expensive the longer the door keeps cycling.
Many homes here have garages tucked onto narrow lots, some attached under the living space and some at the back of a shared driveway. Plenty of them were repaired or rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy flooded the area in October 2012, when local reports said almost every basement in Far Rockaway took water. A door that sat in salt water can look fine and still have rust inside the bottom section, the brackets and the cable drums. We check those spots on every visit.
Four kinds of garage door work we do
Broken spring? Torsion and extension spring replacement
Springs carry the weight of the door. We size new ones to your door, replace them in pairs, and balance the door before we leave. From $275.
02Snapped cable, off-track door or noisy rollers
Cables, drums, tracks, rollers, hinges, panels and bottom seals. Off-track reset from $175, a full set of nylon rollers from $175.
03Opener that hums, clicks or reverses
Repairs to LiftMaster, Genie and other brands, plus new installed openers from $525 and battery backup for power outages.
04New garage door installation
Steel, insulated, carriage-house, vinyl, wood and full-view glass doors. New doors run from $1,550 to $6,500 depending on size and style.
How much does garage door repair cost in Far Rockaway?

Who is the best garage door company near me?
The honest answer is that you should judge any company — including us — by what it puts in writing. Before you let anyone work on a door that weighs a couple of hundred pounds, check four things:
- A written price before work. A company that won't give one until the old spring is off the shaft is asking you to negotiate with your door in pieces.
- Prices you can see in advance. Ours are on every page, as starting prices.
- Real reviews with names and dates. Ours are below, copied word for word from Google.
- A warranty you can read. We give 3 years on repairs and 5 years on installations.
That is also why our prices are on this site and why the technician writes the full price down before any work starts. You should never learn the cost of a repair halfway through it.
Three checks you can do safely before calling
Some problems are not broken parts at all, and we would rather tell you that over the phone than drive over the bridge for nothing.
- Look at the two sensors near the floor. If one light is off or blinking, wipe the lens and make sure nothing is blocking the beam. Wet weather and a bumped bracket are the usual causes.
- Check the lock button on the wall control. On many LiftMaster models a lock or vacation mode stops the remotes but not the wall button.
- Change the remote battery. If the wall button works and the remote doesn't, this is the first thing to try.
What you should not try: loosening a spring, unbolting a bottom bracket or pulling a cable back onto its drum. Those parts are under heavy tension, and that is where garage door injuries happen.
Where we work on the Rockaway peninsula
Our home base is Far Rockaway, at the east end of the peninsula, and we cover the neighborhoods around it: Bayswater, Wavecrest, Edgemere and Arverne. We also cover Rockaway Beach, Rockaway Park and Belle Harbor, and the rest of Queens by appointment. Customers coming from the mainland know the two bridges well — the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge from Howard Beach and the Marine Parkway–Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge from Brooklyn — and our technicians use the same routes.
